Hiện nay, việc nhập khẩu thức ăn chăn nuôi được được quy định cụ thể tại Thông tư 04/2015/TT-BNNPTNT ngày 12/02/2015, Thông tư 66/2011/TT-BNNPTNT ngày 10/10/2011 và Thông tư 26/2012/TT-BNNPTNT ngày 25/6/2012 của Bộ Nông nghiệp & Phát triển Nông thôn, theo đó:

1/ Đối với thức ăn chăn nuôi đã có trong Danh mục thức ăn chăn nuôi được phép lưu hành tại Việt Nam, khi nhập khẩu, tổ chức, cá nhân làm thủ tục tại cơ quan hải quan và thực hiện kiểm tra chất lượng theo Chương III Thông tư này. Thủ tục hải quan thực hiện theo Điều 16, 18 Thông tư 38/2015/TT-BTC ngày 25/3/2015 của Bộ tài chính.

2/ Đối với thức ăn chăn nuôi chưa có trong Danh mục thức ăn chăn nuôi được phép lưu hành tại Việt Nam khi nhập khẩu phải có quyết định công nhận thức ăn chăn nuôi, thức ăn gia súc được phép lưu hành tại Việt Nam của Tổng cục Thủy sản hoặc Cục Chăn nuôi và thực hiện kiểm tra chất lượng theo Chương III Thông 66/2011/BNNPTNT.
